A gunman forced his way through airport security and boarded a CanJet plane which was making a stop in Santa Clara Cuba and then on to Canada. The gunman hijacked the plane holding six crew members hostage for eight hours. The suspect is now in custody after police and soldiers stormed the aircraft on Monday and captured the man. He is identified as Stephen Fray, a 20 year old "mentally challenged" man from the northwestern resort city of Montego Bay. It is believed the man was upset over a failed relationship. He demanded that the pilots take him to Cuba and some of the passengers were robbed. This all happened at Sangster International Airport in Jamaica which is normally a very safe airport.

Quote:
"It's a most unfortunate situation, but I can say the passengers are happy to be alive," Vaz said. "This whole experience has been very traumatic for them."

That is so scary I can't imagine how scared those people on the plane must have been. I am just glad they were not in the air when the hijacking occured. It makes me realize that our airport security is still not that safe.

Flying already scares me to begin with because I have no control over what happens up there.

I did ride in a helicopter at a fair once which wasn't soo bad, but I've been hanging over the edge of roof tops that were higher than that copter went.

If I ever do fly somewhere, and my plane gets hijacked, I'm opening the door and jumping. They let you bring parachutes on the plane right ?

No they don't have parachutes...LOL. All they tell you about is the oxygen masks in case you lose pressure which would be pretty scary. Oh and your seat becomes a floatation device which I am sure will be real helpful if you crash into the water and are already dead.

I wonder if fighter jet ejection seats come with flotation devices.
