At least 14 to 17 people are dead resulting from a plane crash March 22, 2009 in Butte Montana. The planes original flight route was from California to Bozeman Montana. At sometime during the flight it was diverted to land in Butte Montana instead and crashed while attempting to land at the Bert Mooney Airport. The plane crashed into a the Holy Cross Cemetary about 500 feet from the airport. An eyewitness said

Quote:
“All of a sudden the pilot lost control and went into a nosedive,” Kenny Gulick, 14, a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Butte who lives near the airport, told The Montana Standard in Butte. “He couldn’t pull out in time and crashed into the trees of the cemetery.”

Many of the passengers were children ranging in ages 6 to 10 on an apparent ski trip to Bridger Bowl just outside of Bozeman. The plane involved was said to be a Pilatus PC12 that was registered, and apparently rented from, Eagle Cap Leasing of Enterprise, Ore. Butte Montana is also my hometown, my prayers go out to the victims and families of this horrible accident. This is what this type of plane looks like.

In the accident he lost his two daughter, two son in laws, and five grandchildren. They are

Results of the pilot's autopsy have just been released. They still have not figured out what caused the plane to crash. The pilot died from blunt force injuries, meaning the injuries sustained in the crash. Though the pilot did have a history of some heart disease it does not appear that he suffered from a heart attack. There were no drugs or alcohol found in the pilot's system either. Federal investigators do not have a story developed on what caused the plane to crash, ice on the wings, overloading, and mechanical problems have been mentioned.
